Well, honestly, because that's a lie. Yep, all of it. But mostly that happiness thing— it's a BFL (big fat lie)!
Have you ever said to yourself, When I lose X pounds, I'll be happy."? We get it. Somewhere in our dinosaur brains it makes sense. Sort of. Being heavy doesn't feel good, so of course having a smaller, thinner body would make you happy. Right?
Not so fast... Here's the truth. "I'll be happy when____" is one of the most damaging mindset roadblocks that prevents us from getting what we want— including lasting weight loss.
And here's why...
In order to lose weight and keep it off, you've got to get happy first. Happiness first. Weight loss next.
We humans are complex creatures— messy, imperfect, emotional, sometimes broken and rough around the edges, but always tender on the inside. We don't often like how it feels to look deep into the messy, squishy, tender middle. To paraphrase our friend Kristen Noelle, "Oh, the depths of us! Who can fathom?"
True happiness (the kind that is deep and persistent) comes from the messy middle— you've got to be willing to look inside. Deep inside. That's where all the good stuff lives!
And that is also why you'll read more in these newsletters about how to be happy than about how to lose weight. Happiness first. Weight loss next.
This month, we're exploring happiness. Though the list of links on this topic could be infinite, we chose only a few— the ones we know will help you explore the depths of your own happiness. Pour a cup of tea, cozy into your favorite "me" place, and enjoy!
